There is something beautiful and calming to sit at sunrise in the fresh air, a slight breeze gently playing with the leaves, a faint humming of bees as they get on with their work and birds calling to each other across the landscape. The break of day is a moment in time which happens every day. It is a consistent companion as we walk through our lives. ‘Seeing’ and ‘listening’ to the gifts which each new day brings is how we can connect with our world and each other. Taking the time to ‘see’ seems to be disappearing from our lives. The world is still there, it is still open to being part of our lives but how often do we pause to consider and connect with the landscape in which we live.
We talk about children needing to ‘take risks’ and ‘develop resilience’, explore and get to know the world. We value what we can get from our world, how we can manipulate it and all that is in it and what we can offer to ‘save’ the planet but do we take the time to get to truly know, because our world is Beautiful!
Children can see the beauty and wonder the world presents. Perhaps it is time for us as adults to learn from them and, starting with the sunrise, connect with our world once more.
